5 Games Perfect For Couples

If you’re a gamer in a significant relationship, it can be tough to find the time to dedicate to playing video-games. If you’re lucky like me, your other half might like playing most video-games with you and yet, sometimes, you can struggle to find the best games for couples to play. This list is for you.

Others might not be as fortunate, and convincing them to sit down with you for a game of Battlefield. A match of FIFA. Or a round of Rocket Leaguer can be tricky.

Often, the issue might not be the act of gaming itself, but rather the games you’re playing. So here are 5 perfect games for couples. They’re fun, easy to pick-up and a delight to play. All of which will hopefully get your partner interested in gaming and loving video-games!

Overcooked

This game is incredibly simple to pick up. There are only really three controls to it. Moving your character with the analogue sticks. Picking up items with the action button and then chopping them with a second button.

On the Xbox One, you only really need the Left Stick, A and X. You can even do two players on one controller. As illustrated below.

There’s a lot to love about Overcooked. From how easy it is to play it, to how addictive the game is. Plus, it’s ridiculously good fun. You basically have to complete cooking orders in the fastest time possible. Work together to finish the orders and earn as many points as possible – it’s really that simple. If you’re looking for a game for couples, this is for you.

Starwhal

When I first played this, during our 24 Hour Charity Live Stream, I really didn’t know what to expect. The game seemed absolutely manic. I had no idea what was going on, or what I was supposed to be doing.

I quickly got the gist, though. Partly because the game’s quite intuitive, but mostly because there’s literally one button (I think). I say “(I think)”, because after playing it for a good hour, I still have no idea what I was doing.

That being said, it was incredibly good fun. Sure, I didn’t really know what was going on. But the basic aim of the game is simple. All you have to do is direct your narwhal’s horn towards the heart of your enemy narwhal. Strike them in the heart and remove a life. Remove all of their lives to win. It’s not the most romantic of games for couples – but it’s addictive good fun!

Rocket League

I love playing Rocket League with my fiancé. It’s really easy to just pick up and play, and you can get a few games in within the hour. You can even play against bots to practice, if your partner hasn’t played the game before.

It’s basically football with cars – plus a few different game modes which really mix things up. Psyonix does an awesome job of updating the game, and re-inventing it with new free game modes and cars. So it’s one of the games for couples that keeps on giving!

Neon Chrome

Ten Tonnes make some amazing games. Neon Chrome is just one of many. We love the game at DXP, simply because of how easy it is to play with friends. It’s a twin-stick shooter – not the easiest to play, but easy to pick up and a huge amount of fun.

Twin-stick shooters are a great way to introduce people to shooter titles. Neon Chrome is a great choice for doing just that. But if you’re a Call of Duty fan, I’d also suggest trying out Black Ops 2 and 3’s Dead Ops mode. It’s basically a twin-stick shooter version of Nazi Zombies!

Borderlands

This list wouldn’t be complete without Borderlands. Any of the Borderlands games would do, as they’re all great two-player titles. My personal favourite was the original Borderlands title, though.

The design of the game is something different. The game has a good vein of humour running through it. The action is great and the FPS combat isn’t hard to pick up. It even has a great story, to capture your interest and make you come back for more.

Don’t forget that we stream a plethora of games for couples every Tuesday night, on our Couples Gaming Live Stream. You can catch that on our Facebook page!
